We don't live off likes, we live off customers!

Updated: May 4, 2022

I apologize in advance if this is going to make anyone's day, especially in online marketing circles. This is not an opinion on my part, but a fact! Don't get me wrong I believe in the power of marketing. In fact, I believe in ambitious young influencers, IF and only if they bring me concrete results! Now let's stop here for a moment.

What do we mean by result?

Maybe I'm old fashioned and should get with the times, but for me, likes / followers / views are just a data. I'd call it a sub-result with good grace.

BECAUSE WHAT CAN I ACHIEVE WITH 150 LIKES? AND WHAT DO I ACHIEVE WITH 150,000 LIKES?

Whoever provides me with any service, I always ask myself the question: What is the purpose of what I have received. What is the purpose of the like collection? Where do we want to go with this? For me, there is only 1 acceptable answer to this question: to increase my income. In fact, to increase my profit. Unfortunately, we do not live on income, but on profit. But is "collecting likes" important or not?

Most of my clients are in the 40-55 age group. Many complain that they do not agree with the ideas of young marketing gurus. The reason for this difference of opinion is that they themselves do not see the connection between Social media, marketing campaigns and their profits. And the other party cannot "convince" them, i.e. show them where the return is.

Several people have said the same thing to me: "Geoff look, I know one thing. There's money in finding the customer, selling to them and serving them. That means making them happy. What I haven't seen is how posting and collecting likes makes money. I would believe that, but nobody has been able to deduce that for me." The thing is, you can call it old-fashioned thinking and you can call it reality. I myself do not form an opinion, I do not join either side. I believe in one thing: RESULTS If your marketing (online or offline) gets results it's good, if not it's not good! It's that simple!

It's not enough for somebody to spread their hands and say "boss, we have 15,000 followers, what do you expect me to do more than that".

What can be said? Oh, no problem, I'll give you your salary in followers and likes?!

So if the likes have a result, i.e. we can monetize them, then very good. If not, then it's back to the old tried and tested sales. As we heard in Shark Tale: "You go there, you kill it, you eat it, that's it!" I myself believe in GOOD marketing, professional sales and a high level of service. This is the key to success. The majority of companies have excellent services/products. This is not enough in the long run! You have to sell it!
